Sacred to the memory of Thomas Law HODGES, Esquire of Hemsted, Deputy Lieutenant of the county of Kent, Justice of the Peace for the counties of Kent & Sussex, Chairman of the Quarter Sessions for many years and Major in the West Kent Militia, he represented the county and subsequently to the passing the reform bill the Western Division in five parliments. He married in 1802 Rebecca, only child of Sir Roger TWISDEN, Bart, and had issue Thomas Twisden HODGES, Esqre. who married first, Mary Ann Floretta CHANDLESS & 2ndly Rosa WILSON, widow of General Sir W. NOTT, K.C.B. - Anne Rebecca, wife of Cook Tylden PATTENSON, Esqre Frances Dorothy, wife of the Honble Robert FORBES, - Caroline Cordelia HODGES, - Julia Elizabeth, wife of the Revd. W.M. Smith MARRIOTT, - Katharine, wife of William PEARETH, Esqre - Charlotte Lydia, wife of Edward Barrett CURTEIS, Esqre - Francis, - Frederick George - & Owen, who all three died in infancy. - A true patriot, a kind and liberal landlord, an unfailing friend to the poor, - faithful in every relation of public and private life, he served his generation according to the will of God, and now rests in sure and certain hope of a blessed resurrection, through the merits of his Redeemer, born June 3rd, 1776, - died May 14th 1857.
