The Body and Chancel of this Church, being much
dilapidated, were to a great extent rebuilt beau-
-tified and with the exception of the Font, entire
-ly refurbished in the years of our Lord 1861 and
1862 at the sole expense of The Right
Honourable Gathorne HARDY, MP
of Hemsted Park in this Parish the
Church was reopened for Divine service
Easter Day A.D. 1862 and the Inhabitants
of Benenden, desirous to record their Grati-
-tude to God and their deep sense of obli-
-gation to their Benefactor for this good work,
have erected this Tablet as a Memorial
to future generations.
